Christchurch Re-Build

Mixed Use Office / Retail / Hospitality

This proposed development is located at the River Park end of the Retail Precinct in Christchurch’s CBD. Named Te Putahi (or meeting place), it was the second project to achieve resource consent for an Outline Development Plan extending from Ballantynes through to Oxford Terrace and encompassing some 16000m². The master planning for this development consisted of a total of 50,000m² of A Grade commercial space, 5000m² of Retail/Hospitality space and an 8 level car park building including basement parking across the entire site. The development was designed to a minimum 5 star Green Star rating with a strong emphasis on sustainable landscaping integrated into the Environment Services and landscape design. The jewel of the master plan was the Papaho building and public plaza adjacent to the Avon River Park precinct.

In September 2012, Context Architects Te Putahi design won a limited invitation competition with the intention to develop this project further. However, subsequent to this success, Goodman NZ ran into issues with land ownership issues and decided not to pursue the retail precinct development.
